Tidy homes aren't about discipline. They're about simple systems. Here are the ones that work.
Give Everything a Home
Clutter is just stuff with no assigned spot. Keys go in the bowl by the door. Mail goes in the tray. When everything has a place, tidying takes seconds.
The Two-Minute Rule
If it takes less than two minutes, do it now. Hang the coat. Rinse the dish. File the paper.
Declutter First
Don't buy bins for stuff you don't need. Pull everything out and sort it: keep, donate, trash. Ask yourself: "If I moved tomorrow, would I pay to ship this?" If not, let it go.
Make Tidying Easy
Put things where you actually use them. Hamper in the bedroom, not the hallway. Hooks by the door for the coat you grab daily.
One In, One Out
New shirt in, old shirt out. This one rule stops clutter from creeping back.
Go Slow
Don't do it all in one day. One small zone per week — a drawer, a shelf. Fifteen minutes at a time. In a couple of months the whole house is done, and it stays that way.
